When Prince George pressed the button to open the reservoir,a
reporter from the Advertiser and Times wrote,'A great fountain of water rose
in a foaming cresent from the foot of the huge embankment on which the Prince
stood.Up and over,ever higher the water sprang,then to fall with a steady
roar into the stream below.......For nine years an army of workmen have been
engaged in the task of transforming the countryside,and Tuesday's ceremony
marked the completion of a £1,400,000 scheme begun in 1912 to lay for
years the bogey of a water famine in Flyde.'
