1932

Everybody looking on as the reservoir starts to open. The local paper descibed this moment by saying,'He (Prince George) pressed a silver button and immediately the valley resounded to the shrill sound of hooters and engine whistles. The applause of the visitors was drowned'.Then for a shortwhile there was a silence, then the water started to move from the depths of the reservoir. The paper went on to descibe this moment by saying,'Down below,a hundred feet away in the depths of the reservoir, the water began to rumble like the voice of an earthquake as it poured through the valve out into the valley below. As the valve slowly lifted, the rumbling grew louder. In a few moments the water began to pour through one of the huge bell pipes in a great spray of silvery white'.Prince George was then led off to the valve tower.
