These photographs were taken on 26th November 1926.What
was described as a very cold November day.The first electric cables that were
layed in the town caused quite a stir at the time.Crowds of people often gathered
to watch the electric cables being put in.This cable being layed in the Market
Place probably would of been one of the first with avery offical looking crowd
looking on.It looks like they have travelled from somewhere because of the
coach in the background. Before this, all cooking and lighting was provided
by gas which came to the town in 1826 when the Clitheroe Gas Light Co was
founded. The botton photograph shows the cables being layed on Church Brow.
