Here are the two Sawley Arches being taken down after a lorry crashed into one.The arches were made out of stone out of the abbey ruins. They stood across the main road in Sawley for a few hundred years, but when the roads started getting busier, the arches were an obvious danger.Today one of the arches is at the side of the road,as a very prestigious gateway to a field. What happend to the second I'm not sure.I heard that when the second arche was knocked down the stone was used to build part of a house or something stupid like that.Over the years since the dissolution of Sawley Abbey alot of the stone has been taken to build houses around the Ribble Valley.
