Clitheroe Work House 1890's

A rare shot of some of the staff of Clitheroe work house. The building was known as 'Coplow'.I have been trying to work out for about the last 18 months where these photographs where taken and this one quite magically jumped out of the recent book 'Keepers of the House' - A workhouse saga by F.H. Lofthouse. The orginal workhouses for the Ribble Valley use be at Aighton and Holden. In 1870 - 73 the new workhouse for the area was built on Chatburn Road for 200 inmates, together with a 36 bed hospital.
